Area Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement report they were notified late on Wednesday, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then found multiple other marked vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say preliminary tests suggest the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to its source; investigators are not yet informed of any harm in relation with the event," they stated.
City officials stated they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the community for information.
A high-ranking official commented the vandalism made him without words and had to be addressed rapidly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on people of migrant background in five years prior.
